After several readings of Andy Rooney's commentary ("Oh my, 'Papa' Hemingway was a Big Jerk," Opinion Page, June 24), I can't quite decide who exactly is the biggest jerk of all -- Ernest Hemingway for his flawed, over- bearing, overly macho manner; or Andy Roony for his sheer delight in attacking a defenseless dead man; or the Examiner's editorial staff for deciding to print such a tired piece of literary gossip.
Next month marks both the centennial of Hemingway's birth and the 38th anniversary of his death. Let the old man rest in peace.
